When a customer places an order, our advanced fulfillment systems direct operators to "pick" the items from the warehouse and "pack" them securely for shipment. By leveraging our expertise as a third-party logistics provider (3PL), you can offload the complexities of order processing and focus on growth, while we optimize workflows, minimize errors, and ensure every order arrives in perfect condition.

What is the Pick and Pack Process at Ryder?

The pick and pack process at Ryder goes through four key stages:

Order Receiving: Your customer places an order on your e-commerce website or other sales channel.

Order Picking: Our fulfillment warehouse receives the order; a warehouse worker is assigned a picking list to retrieve the items from the relevant warehouse shelves or storage facilities. This may include warehouse robots paired with our workforce.

Order Packing: Once all of the items have been gathered for an order, they are delivered to the nearest packing station to be prepared for shipping.

Order Shipping: Once the order is packaged it is correctly labeled to meet the requirements of the parcel carrier and service level and shipped to the customer.

Types of Pick and Pack Services

We tailor picking strategies to fit the unique needs of each fulfillment center. Factors like warehouse size, order volume, and product types all influence the optimal approach. By customizing the strategy, we ensure efficient operations, faster order fulfillment, and better experience for your customers.

    Piece Picking

Ryder offers piece picking, a straightforward yet highly accurate method ideal for fulfilling single orders one at a time. Piece picking minimizes errors, ensuring precision in every order. This approach is best suited for businesses with low daily order volumes or those without advanced warehouse systems to manage more complex fulfillment methods. Ryder’s expertise ensures that even simple strategies are executed efficiently, meeting the unique needs of your business.

  • Batch Picking

    Batch Picking

Ryder provides batch picking services, enabling warehouse workers to efficiently pick items for multiple customer orders simultaneously. This strategy optimizes workflow by guiding staff through the warehouse in the most efficient path, allowing them to pick multiple SKUs from the same area without backtracking. Batch picking maximizes efficiency by allowing workers to handle several of the same SKUs at once. We ensure smooth execution of this method, enhancing productivity and reducing fulfillment times.

  • Zone Picking

    Zone Picking

Ryder offers zone picking, a specialized method that segments warehouse facilities into designated zones. Each worker is assigned to a specific zone, picking items for an order only within their area. If additional items are needed from other zones, the order is seamlessly handed off to the next worker. This approach minimizes travel time within the warehouse, boosting efficiency and reducing fatigue. This method works best with sophisticated warehouse and inventory management systems, which Ryder provides to ensure smooth, coordinated operations tailored to your business's scale and complexity.

  • Wave Picking

    Wave Picking

Ryder offers wave picking, a sophisticated approach that combines the efficiency of batch picking with the precision of zone picking. Orders are grouped by specific zones in the warehouse, enabling workers to pick items simultaneously across different areas. This method excels in handling large orders and supporting high-volume fulfillment operations. Given its complexity, this strategy is best executed by an experienced 3PL ensuring seamless collaboration, efficiency, and accuracy in your fulfillment process.
